The GENIVI Alliance is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of the top tier members and elected lower tier members. This Board holds the legal and fiduciary responsibility for the Alliance, which is a 501(c)6 not-for-profit organization.
The Board works with three councils which oversee the strategic, technical, and marketing components of the alliance. The GENIVI Board of Directors governs the alliance and sets the strategic plans that are carried out by the technical and marketing councils and their respective working groups.
Strategy. The Strategy Council, comprised of Founding Charter members, is chartered by the Board to plan the ongoing strategy of the Alliance. The charter of the Strategy Council includes:
- Defining the long range and annual strategic plan
- Developing the roadmap for Alliance deliverables
- Identifying and implementing liaison relationships with other Alliances
- Determining the timing and form of Alliance expansion.
Technical. The Technical Steering Council develops and monitors the technical working plan of the alliance including requirement collection and specification development; adherence to IPR policies and processes; testing and release of reference implementations; and adoption and compliance activities. The current set of technical working groups include:
- System Infrastructure
- Multimedia CE
- Automotive
- Mobile Office/Internet
Marketing. The Marketing Council develops the alliance marketing plan, manages internal and external communications, and facilitates programs which bring greater awareness to the alliance and its deliverables.
